risotto.pigro.con.carciofini.e.zenzero

Tuesday, April 28th, 2009

I love a proper risotto, but these days I have been coding and editing website that I just couldn’t spend 40 minutes stirring risotto, instead, I made a lazy one (pigro means lazy in italian :) I had this wonderful bag of bio dynamic rice from Cascine Orsine and some carciofini (small artichokes) and I remember the mother of Gerardo told me about making artichoke with ginger. Never crossed my mind before that ginger and artichokes would match but they tasted fantastic! I hope my friend T will not read this post, because he wanted so much to eat artichoke last week when he was in Milan, but the thing is we did not have time to hunt down some nice artichokes, and I did not have time to cook for him either :P

wild asparagus, finocchietto and gruyère fritatta

Thursday, April 23rd, 2009

This is the first time I tried wild asparagus and wild finocchietto, and I must say I love them! It is not so easy to find and I saw some on the tuesday market, bought some and also became friend with the seller, Giuseppe or you can call him Pippo :) His stall is not very big but he has a very good selection of fruits and vegetables. What I really like about him is that he never seems to rush (other seller just want you to buy and leave) but he will really explain many things about the fruits and vegetables he sells.

some kind of girly pasta salad

Friday, April 17th, 2009

Today’s lunch was one of those days when I felt: I kind of want salad, but I want something warm, kind of want pasta, but it is too heavy, plus the fridge was not so inspiring… you know, confused taste buds :) Then my designer mind quickly took over the situation, dividing the confusion: Ok, what is the context? In the middle of editing photographs and graphics. Problems? Want something fast+warm+light+easy yet satisfying. Solution: Warm pasta salad, or should I call it warm salad pasta? :) It took like 10 minutes to prepare and 20 minutes to eat (I am a slow eater)

(a bit special) raw beetroot salad :)

Sunday, April 12th, 2009

I had this nice RAW beetroots (rarely see them) in the organic shop the other day and today just improvising with them, but the result is surprisingly good that I want to share it. I was just like: right, here is beetroot, what else do I have? :) I had nice pear and green apple and feta and a bunch of wild finocchietto (I don’t know the name in English, but if you can’t find it, just use the herby tops of the fennel) then I opened the cupboard and felt like throwing some sunflower seeds and pumpkin seeds and found some unshelled walnuts in the table and asked Marco to crack it when I was busy chopping everything. Mixing and crumbling with hands. Beautiful!

strawberry jam=simple+sugar+magic

Friday, April 10th, 2009

For me, strawberry jam is simple+sugar+magic :) The very first jam I ever made was pineapple jam for my father, it is his favourite jam. I made this when I was around 11, we were driving past pineapple street seller and they looked just amazing, so I asked him to stop and bought some so I could try to make some jam. The inspiration of making jam, came from a book called Tini Belajar Memasak, it is in Indonesian, and I could not remember the author, but I just love that book. So that is where I got my jam recipe from :) I still remember how I was amazed to see the pineapple turns into golden liquid, it was magical! I just made two jars of strawberry jam three days ago, and they came out wonderful, and thinking I would love to share it with you. (more…)

one adventure in nonna anna’s kitchen

Monday, April 6th, 2009

This dish is called orecchiette con le cime di rapa, it is a typical dish from Puglia. It looks so simple and it really does, and I have eaten this several times, but I never had one like this. As simple as it looks, Nonna Anna woke up in the morning and made them one by one with hands. We had the dinner at 8 and to eat one plate of orecchiette con le cime di rapa might take you only 15 minutes (I ate mine for 30 minutes, I am a slow eater) but the preparation took the whole day. Let me share my little adventure in Nonna Anna’s kitchen :) (more…)

Thursday, April 2nd, 2009

It was unexpected :) I did not think think to eat this dip with carrots, it just happened that I had some very sweet and fresh carrots on my table and I was very hungry waiting for my lunch so I dipped some carrots and it was SO good!!! Some kind of taste I would say: wouw!

After that, I was busy trying it with all other vegetables I had in my fridge that and I finished the whole batch and felt so full, couldn’t eat my lunch anymore :P

and my conclusion was: only good with carrot (not so good with other veggies) and fresh ciabatta :)

Avocado Dip

200 ml greek yoghurt

1 ripe avocado

Dill

Sea salt and pepper

Extra virgin olive oil

Just mix everything and enjoy! :)

first.day.of.spring

Wednesday, April 1st, 2009

I have not been posting for a long time, have been too busy with my design project…Marco took this when we went to the park on the first day of spring, we played football and just laid on the grass, taking a short break from the project.

It was love.ly!

There was a play ground too in the park, we did not play, but it was fun to see people enjoying spring.

Will post more about later, the project is supposed to finish this friday…really can’t wait to go back to my quiet life :)
