a bit of update

Tuesday, December 27th, 2011

Yes. Just like what you’ve thought: I lived on pasta and muffins (during the busy month of November). I did 1 kg+ of my ragu recipe put it into small containers and freeze them plus making my everyday muffins in loop. Not bad at all :)

Then went to Semarang in Central Java for Marco’s exhibition in December. My interactive web designer/photographer/VJ brother also came all the way to help us with the preparation.

I was very tired, I could not even make a straight photo…and did not bring any cameras during the opening pf the exhibition. It was such a great night, you can read some press (in Indonesian) here, here, here and here and in English too here and in Italian here and here or visit the website of the gallery. You can see the film of his video installation here and if you would like to see and download the catalog of the exhibition here.

Phew!

We were super exhausted from the preparation and the exhibition so when we returned to Bali we decided to drive and stay for a few days in Amed, just to relax by the sea…

Again, could not bring myself to take any photos in Amed, this photo above was taken by my brother on the way to Amed and this one below when we met a cat who looked like the copy of my cat lula :)

That’s it for now, need to go back to my lazy zone and enjoy the last of 2011. Ciao!

random 12.10.2011

Wednesday, October 12th, 2011

That one carrot plant is giving up on me, I don’t know why. That is one of the things in my life lately. I am a little bit mellow, I think I miss Europe a lot, It has been almost a year that I haven’t been there. I planned a trip back in August and September, but a project came along and I had to do it. And also now, I am doing a strategic design project until mid November, but then it will be too cold to travel to Europe, plus Marco’s exhibition is coming in December and my brother is coming too. So, no Europe this year. That makes me pretty sad. Not sad sad sad, just…mellow I guess. I miss the energy. Well, I have to go back to work now, so I’ll just say good morning (although now is not really morning here in Indonesia) and bounce.

wish.you.were.here

Saturday, August 13th, 2011

Sometimes in life, what I need is just a few good friends, some beers, quiet Saturday night, watching Pink Floyd concert on dvd and that’s all. Life is just beautiful. Tonight, listening to the song: wish you were here, I suddenly remembered my dearest cousin. He passed away in 1999. Cous, if you hear me, I just wish you were here.

jepara.july.2011

Friday, July 22nd, 2011

Just came back from Jepara for a project, that of course I still could not share with you. Instead, I will share with you some places of Jepara that I visited. First day I went to Kartini beach, and I was welcomed by these:

Giant turtle building? Big plastic duckies hanging? becak turned mobile-satay-stall? You could not blame me thinking I was high or something, it was pretty surreal, I really thought I was high from all those wood dust I breathe after a whole day working in a place like this:

my.everyday.muffins

Sunday, July 3rd, 2011

Good morning!
Just a quick post before I go for lunch with friends then beach. I want to share my everyday muffins recipe. I usually make this right after I wake up, sleepily standing in my kitchen, dumping flours in the bowls, trying to keep my eyes open, enjoying the morning sun :) then while waiting for the muffins in the oven, I take shower and prepare myself. When I am ready, the muffins are ready too, we have our breakfast then ready for the day.
Wish you all a nice sunday! Hugs!

my.everyday.muffins
Makes six muffins

1 cup all purpose flour
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/4 - 1/2 cup sugar (I don’t like it too sweet so I use 1/4, but my cousin said she prefer 1/2, it is up to you :)
1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil
1/4 cup yoghurt
1/4 cup milk
1 egg
75g dark chocolate, chopped (or banana or blueberry or anything you like)

Turn on your morning compilation music :)
Then turn on the oven to 180C
Mix all the dry ingredients
Mix all the wet ingredients then pour it to the dry ingredients, mix until just incorporated, do not over mix
Then fold the chopped chocolate
Butter and flour the muffin pan (or if you have some duralex glasses, like pictured. I never use muffin paper anymore: read my post about paperless muffin)
Divide the batter to the pan
Bake for 20-25 minutes or until golder brown.

Selamat pagi!
Hanya satu tulisan cepat-cepat sebelum saya pergi makan siang dan ke pantai bersama teman-teman. Saya ingin berbagi resep muffin yang saya biasa buat sehari-hari. Saya biasanya membuat muffin ini langsung ketika bangun tidur, terkantuk-kantuk di dapur, menuang tepung sambil mencoba untuk membuka mata, sambil menikmati matahari pagi :) ketika menunggu muffin matang di oven, saya mandi dan bersiap-siap, jadi ketika muffin nya matang saya sudah siapa. Lalu kami sarapan dan kemudian memulai hari.
Semoga hari minggu kalian menyenangkan! Peluk!

muffin.sehari-hari. saya
membuat enam muffin

1 gelas takar* tepung terigu (saya memakai tepung terigu segitiga biru)
1 sendok teh baking powder
1/2 sendok teh baking soda
1/4 - 1/2 gelas takar gula (saya tidak terlalu suka manis, makanya saya hanya pakai 1/4, tapi sepupu saya lebih suka 1/2, jadi terserah anda :)
1/4 gelas takar extra virgin olive oil
1/4 gelas takar yoghurt
1/4 gelas takar susu
1 egg

Nyalakan kompilasi musik pagi hari :)
Nyalakan oven ke 180C
Campur semua bahan kering
Campur semua bahan basah, lalu tuang ke campuran bahan kering. Aduk rata, tapi jangan berlebihan
Masukan coklat, aduk rata

*gelas takar = measuring cup, penjelasan lihat disini

cerita si kacang panjang / the long bean story

Wednesday, June 15th, 2011

I had this for lunch a while ago, it was a simple grilled mahi-mahi, with rice and sauteed long beans. Very simple dish, but left a deep feeling in my heart, because it was the first time I ate something that I grow from seeds, I think everybody has to experience this at least once in their lives. Such a beautiful and incomparable experience. It started with this seeds of long beans:

Saturday, June 11th, 2011

Saturday afternoon, raining lightly outside, it means no beach today, instead we have a couch picnic in our living room, watching Julie & Julia, that reminds me….I haven’t written food post for a while, so I want to share it with you: pâté de foies de volailles…ok, it reads: chicken liver pâté, complicated to say but very delicious to eat :) and we ate it with toasted baguette and homemade confiture de fraises, reads: strawberry jam :)

I got my recipe from this beautiful book Tartine Bread by Chad Robertson, in this book he called it baker’s foie, he described it like this: “Fresh jars of pâté and jam were always on the ledge next to the oven. We spread them on warm bread as a bakers’ snack. I rarely have time required to make traditional pâtés. So we worked up a quick and delicious recipe that satisfies our pâté cravings.”
Super agree :)

Pâté de Foies de Volailles (adapted from Chad Robertson’s baker’s foie)
6 chicken livers
Olive oil
3 shallots, finely chopped
1 tbsp fresh thyme leaves
120 grams unsalted butter, at room temperature
20 ml cognac (it originally calls for 1/2 cup of cognac, but since alcohol is so expensive here, I reduce it :)
1/2 tsp salt

Cognac butter
60 grams unsalted butter, at room temperature
1 tbsp cognac
Pinch of salt

Rinse the livers in cold water and remove any visible fat or connective tissue. Heat a heavy skillet over high heat and add enough olive oil to coat the bottom of the pan. When the oil begins to smoke, carefully add the livers and sears for about 30 seconds. Quickly turn the livers, add the shallots, and sear for another 30 seconds. Add the thyme and cook until thoroughly cooked. Remove the pan from the heat and pour off the excess oil and fat. While the pan is still hot, add 40 grams and cognac, and deglaze the pan, stirring to loosen any brown buts sticking to the bottom. Transfer the contents of the pan to a food processor and let cool for 8 to 10 minutes.
Once the livers have cooled, add the remaining 80 grams of butter and salt to the food processor and processor and process to a thick puree. Taste and add more salt if needed. Pour liver puree into ramekins or into suitably loaf or pâté pan.

To make the cognac butter, place the butter in a small bowl. In a small sauce pan, heat the cognac until it is hot to the touch. Add it to the butter along with the salt. Stir the butter until it has a liquid consistency and then pour it evenly over the pâté. Cover and refrigerate until the cognac butter has set. Serve cool or at room temperature with toast.
Bon appétit! :)

6 hati ayam
Minyak zaitun murni
3 bawang merah, potong tipis-tipis
1 sendok makan thyme segar
120 gram mentega, pada temperatur ruangan
20 ml cognac
1/2 sendok teh garam

Mentega cognac
60 gram mentega
1 sendok makan cognac
Satu cubit (hahaha cubit :P) garam

Selamat makan!
Bon appétit! :)

some.of.the.things.have.changed

Friday, June 10th, 2011

Yes they have :) New design for the blog, a bit chaotic, some posts are still with the old format, some posts are already with the new format, and I am not even sure I like this new design, but it is okay, I’ll get myself used to it for a few days, and if I still don’t like it, I’ll think of a new design :)
And about me…emmmm….still the same :)
About the house, I finally put some curtains (just realised they do make differences, now the house feels more…private haha)
Andddddd……I know it is hard, but, I will try to post in two languages: English and Indonesian. Well, the thing that made me decided to do this was a movie: My Fair Lady, starring Audrey Hepburn, there Professor Higgins (one of the main character, an Englishman) said: “Oh why can’t the English learn to speak? Use a proper English you are regarded as a freak” :) Ha! I feel the same about my own language. So, I decided to use it more, and more properly. Starting from now!

beberapa.hal.telah.berubah
Ya!
Mulai sekarang!

just want to share our vegetable garden with you :)

Wednesday, February 23rd, 2011

It was raining so bad last night, I was very worried about my garden, not my flower garden, but my baby veggie garden. I planted the seeds with my gardener and his wife four days ago and kind of worried that I don’t have a green thumb…I visited the garden everyday to see if anything has grown. Nope.

So this morning I opened my window, just for checking because I was very worried that the rain would destroy the seeds but instead I was greeted by these. THESE BABIES!!! Whoa!

The awesomest of the awesomeness in the world! Super! I am sooooooooooooooooooooooo happy!

It really reminds me of my favourite film from Hayao Miyazaki: My Neighbor Totoro that I really really like. Specifically of this scene:

this is when they kind of magically  grew the seeds over night but of course mine is not done by magic but a bit of hard work :) we planted snake beans, morning glory, chards, tomatoes, lettuces, peas, broad beans…emmmm what else…many more, I really hope all of them will grow, otherwise I need Totoro to come here and help me haha :D
